چکیده

Abstract INTRODUCTION Glioblastoma is a brain tumor with very poor prognosis that highly resistant to treatment. Hiba (Thujopsis dolabrata) has been used as building material because of its insect repellent effect and refreshing fragrance. In this study, we analyzed the antitumor effects thujopsen, which contained in essential oil hiba, investigated aroma therapy. Methods RESULTS We anti-tumor hiba on glioblastoma cells (U251, T98G), gastric cancer (MKN45), breast (MCF7). The varied depending carcinoma, strong inhibition cell proliferation observed MKN45, U251, T98G cells. Hinokitiol reported have effects, isolated identified new factor, thujopsene, by liquid chromatography analysis. assays, thujopsen inhibited more rapidly potently than hinokitiol. Comparing reach two compounds, hinokitiol showed broader thujopsen. expression caspase-3 caspase-9 was increased DARTS analysis PKM2 an intracellular binding protein DISCUSSION present study revealed induces apoptosis via caspase-9. Furthermore, unlike hinokitiol, suggested exhibit mediated PKM2. CONCLUSION Thujopsen low molecular weight compound easily evaporates into air, it expected be applied therapy using "aroma".

Therapeutic anti-angiogenesis for malignant brain tumors.

Malignant brain tumors, especially malignant gliomas, have a poor prognosis, a fact which has remained unchanged over the last decades despite the employment of multimodal therapeutic approaches. Malignant gliomas are among the most vascularized tumors known and the amount of vascularization has been correlated to their prognosis. Since tumor growth is dependent on concomitant vascularization, ...

Computerized Addenbrooke’s Cognitive Examination for Neurocognitive Monitoring of Children with Benign and Malignant Brain Cerebellar Tumor

Background: Brain tumors in the cerebellum site, especially in the cranial nuclei, are most commonly associated with cognitive impairment in children, but the differences in dimensions of cognitive impairments in pediatric benign and malignant tumors are rarely studied. Meanwhile, cognitive impairments in this area are required to be widely studied. This study aimed at using Computerized Addenb...

Chemotherapy for malignant brain tumors of childhood.

During the past 3 decades, chemotherapeutic agents for the treatment of pediatric brain tumors have been extensively evaluated in a myriad of schedules, doses, and combinations. Remarkable advances in outcome have been achieved for certain children, notably those with medulloblastoma, but with a high cost to quality of life. In addition, the success achieved for medulloblastoma is offset by lac...

Aromatherapy: evidence for sedative effects of the essential oil of lavender after inhalation.

The sedative properties of the essential oil of Lavender (Lavandula angustifolia Miller) and of its main constituents--linalool and linalyl acetate--were investigated in mice followed up in a series of experimental procedures. The significant decrease in the motility of female and male laboratory animals under standardized experimental conditions is found to be closely dependent on the exposure...

Photodynamic Therapy for Malignant Brain Tumors

Photodynamic therapy (PDT) using talaporfin sodium together with a semiconductor laser was approved in Japan in October 2003 as a less invasive therapy for early-stage lung cancer. The author believes that the principle of PDT would be applicable for controlling the invading front of malignant brain tumors and verified its efficacy through experiments using glioma cell lines and glioma xenograf...
